The Sports Index is developing a cutting-edge multi-disciplinary digital education curriculum. This is why we chronicle all-things sports and game education. In late April, it launched "Read Like Wemby," highlighting books that San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama loves to read. It's programs like this that hold great potential to get kids reading books again. And it's no surprise that many of Wemby's favs are sci-fi, perhaps even having to do with 'Alien' themes (that's his nickname).

We've got our own ideas for scoreboards, leaderboards, and box scores
Last week, we reported on a movement to ban private equity from youth sports. Now comes the inverse argument. Governing.com explains its reasoning for "Why college sports should go corporate." Governing explains, "Teams are worth a lot of money that public universities could use to fund academic priorities. It’s also an opportunity to abandon the myth of the “student-athlete.” Could a future IPO for The Ohio State University Buckeyes be in the cards? And how exactly might that be structured? Does the entire athletic department go public, money-losing lacrosse and swimming included? Or just net profit generating men's football and basketball programs? Furthermore, how would Title IX gender equity programs be impacted? If an NCAA institution - or a part of it - were in fact to become an outright sports business, would that change the member school's not-for-profit status? All of a sudden, those net profits might turn into net losses. Lots of pesky details.

More than a game. "My son's math homework is essentially just Pokemon," per The Atlantic. The Pokemon Company is a joint venture between video game giant Nintendo Co. Ltd. (NTDOY:OTC, 7974:TOKYO), Game Freak, and Creatures Inc. When a game, collectible and/or sporting pursuit has that kind of educational side-swag (verticals), it's quite possible that at minimum the companies that control it are worth researching as potential investments. To wit: There's even a "Pokemon Professor" program and one person who thought he passed certification is now suing Nintendo and The Pokemon Company for being denied the rank and title, reports CBS8 Des Moines. Such 'scholarly pursuit' for a kids' pastime.
