Parimutuel wagering, racetrack and casino gaming giant Churchill Downs Inc. (CHDN:NASDAQ) agreed to purchase the intellectual property rights to the Preakness Stakes for $85 million, uniting the first two legs of horse racing's Triple Crown, reports CBS Sports. Churchill is the longtime owner of the Kentucky Derby. The third major, the Belmont Stakes, which is controlled by the New York Racing Association. The horse racing zine Past The Wire writes, "Churchill Downs just bought the Preakness. That should concern everyone." In other news, Churchill unveils new and expanded brand partnerships, "further elevating the fan journey at the 152nd 'Run for the Roses,'" per PR Newswire. Lastly, Churchill released its quarterly financials this week, topping both earnings and revenue forecasts, per Seeking Alpha.
